Alternatives to fossil energy

The challenge is huge to free ourselves from the dependence on fossil fuels that make 87% of the World’s energy sources. It won’t be done neither by abandoning the nuclear energy, nor by believing that the currently promoted renewables are the solution –photovoltaic, wind, biomass, small hydro.
And it will take time. However, once ignoring the climatic cause and the associated pseudo-urgency to save the planet, one can see that this time is available, assuming that it will be used to make progresses rather than to defend the status quo.

The rôle of the State is not to promote or to forbid technologies, neither is it to pretend planning changes which we have no clue of what they will be. It should better concentrate in defining smart objectives and the standards to abide by, as well as, by all means, making sure that an optimal framework is set in place within which the necessary innovations will be enabled.

This article, much longer than usual, is a follow-up to another post published last May.

It is in French and discusses 13 advices and 2 imperative conditions to realize such such energy transition. It can be downloaded here or read hereafter.
