{"id":2274,"date":"2015-05-19T18:25:20","date_gmt":"2015-05-19T17:25:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.mr-int.ch\/?p=2274"},"modified":"2017-07-21T10:27:10","modified_gmt":"2017-07-21T08:27:10","slug":"carbon-fate-from-fuel-to-rocks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.mr-int.ch\/?p=2274&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"Carbon fate, from fuel to rocks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>New version, july 2017<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Carbon is an essential element for life on Earth.<br \/>\nIt is totally absurd to pretend that emitting it into the atmosphere in the form of CO<sub>2<\/sub> is a dirty, polluting act.<\/p>\n<p>On the site climate-mr-int.ch, I demonstrate that the climate is much less sensitive to it than what is pretended as a dogma since more than thirty years (<a href=\"http:\/\/climate.mr-int.ch\/index.php\/en\/modelling-uk\/feedback-uk\/temperature-sensitivity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-mce-tmp=\"1\">see here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Having made this point, I should avoid analysing what happens with CO<sub>2<\/sub>, since it has only a minor importance.<br \/>\nNevertheless, I find it adequate to look, once more, at orders of magnitude.<\/p>\n<p>Thus I have written an essay on the fate of carbon after it will have been extracted from oil, gas or coal reserves.<br \/>\nIn summary:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>CO<sub>2<\/sub> atmospheric concentration correlates extremely well with the accumulated burning of fossil fuels;<\/li>\n<li>the more we emit carbon the more the system sequesters it, definitively;<\/li>\n<li>currently, about half of what is emitted every year remains in the air, the other half accumulates in the oceans and as land biomass;<\/li>\n<li>the whole system churns CO<sub>2<\/sub> in a rather fast way;<\/li>\n<li>For each ton of carbon emitted, a wealth of 190 USD is created (constant 2010 $).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here again some original diagrams are presented, showing for example that a lesser proportion of the emitted carbon remains in the atmosphere when the CO<sub>2<\/sub> increases.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\t\t<div class=\"wppdfemb-frame-container-1\" style=\"-webkit-overflow-scrolling:auto;\">\n\t\t\t<iframe class=\"pdfembed-iframe nonfullscreen wppdf-emb-iframe-1\"\n\t\t\t\tsrc=\"https:\/\/blog.mr-int.ch\/?pdfemb-data=eyJkb3dubG9hZCI6Im9uIiwidXJsIjoiaHR0cDpcL1wvYmxvZy5tci1pbnQuY2hcL3dwLWNvbnRlbnRcL3VwbG9hZHNcLzIwMjZcLzA1XC9DU1QtQ2FyYm9uLWZhdGUucGRmIiwidGl0bGUiOiJjYXJib24gZmF0ZSByZXYgMjAxNyIsImluZGV4IjoxLCJwZGZJRCI6NDE5MCwid21fdGV4dCI6IiJ9\"\n\t\t\t\ttitle=\"carbon fate rev 2017\"\t\t\t\tdata-pdf-id=\"4190\"\n\t\t\t\tdata-pdf-index=\"1\"\n\t\t\t\tstyle=\"border:none;width:100%;max-width:100%;height:1087px;\"\n\t\t\t\tscrolling=\"yes\">\n\t\t\t<\/iframe>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New version, july 2017 Carbon is an essential element for life on Earth.
