The allegation is getting more and more widespread that our civilisation is going to rack and ruin because of its abuse of Nature through neglect of the climate, the environment, animal and plant species, public health, and justice for all the oppressed.
That this diagnosis is majestically false, and therefore misleading, does not make any difference. The new political order decrees an emergency and, whatever the cost, moves towards a permanent state of exception – of course, without any democratic consultation since it is supposedly «scientific».
The economic and financial circles are now called upon to contribute their stone – more virtual than concrete, but quite striking – to this edifice made of illusions bathed in contradictory good sentiments.
This provocative and heretical book analyses how we got here, what mechanisms and forces are at work, and why the economic, financial and political establishment has allowed itself to be caught up in this mortifying dogma, even more than willingly. Underlying motivations for this submission are suggested.
A reasoned environmental policy that also takes account of climate
