Over the next forty years humankind will face the huge challenge to be well fed in a sustainable way.
Agriculture must continue to increase its productivity and, as no new cultivated area will be available, this will need to be made by intensification.
Contra-productive policies should be critically questioned, such as locally targeted farm subsidies, support of organic farming, and narrow minded application of the precaution principle.
Public money should be rather spent on providing actual solutions to the intensification question, and on vulgarisation of the results.
Knowledge, products and methods can be developed toward this dual goal: sustainable and intensive agriculture.
